Housing Pledge

The Housing Pledge

The Housing Pledge is a promise by housing, finance and care professionals to deliver the right homes for our most vulnerable citizens.

A quiet residential street of modest brick homes in morning light, with neighbours walking nearby

A promise and a community.

What begins as a personal promise becomes more powerful when we make it together.

The Housing Pledge brings together professionals from across housing, finance and care, united by one shared promise:

To deliver the right homes for our most vulnerable citizens.

  • Some bring property.
  • Some bring capital.
  • Some bring care.
  • Some bring expertise.
  • Some bring influence.
  • Some bring relationships.

Not everyone brings the same thing. Everyone brings their thing. And when those things come together, the right home can happen.

A home is where possibility begins.

For many of us, choosing where we live is something we take for granted.

  • We search.
  • We choose.
  • We rent or buy.
  • We move.

But millions of people don’t have that agency.

  • A young person leaving care.
  • A person with a learning disability who needs supported living.
  • Someone escaping domestic abuse.
  • A person unable to leave hospital because there is nowhere appropriate to go.
  • Someone experiencing homelessness.
  • A person whose physical needs mean an ordinary home simply won’t work.

For them, finding the right home can depend upon an entire system working.

And when that system doesn’t work, the consequences reach far beyond housing.

Because a safe and appropriate home can determine whether someone can recover, learn, work, receive care, maintain relationships, belong to a community — or simply begin again.

“A home has wrongly become the product of potential. We believe it should be the foundation from which potential can flourish.”

Since leaving school, I’ve experienced the fragility of living in my car and the privilege of deploying capital at will. The line between those two lives is thinner than I could ever have believed.

Diverse Community. Shared Promise.

There is no single way to deliver against the Housing Pledge.

Our Pledgers are professionals from across housing, finance and care.

They come from different backgrounds and geographies.

  • They have different resources.
  • Different perspectives.
  • Different capabilities.
  • And different roles to play.

What unites them is one shared promise:

To deliver the right homes for our most vulnerable citizens.

Their individual Pledge Letters explain how they intend to help make that promise real.

Different actions. Shared direction.

A promise made public.

The Housing Pledge brings together housing, finance and care professionals making meaningful commitments to deliver the right homes for our most vulnerable citizens.

Each Pledger sets out that commitment in their own words through a public Pledge Letter.

  • Their promises are different.
  • Their circumstances are different.
  • The scale of their commitments is different.

What matters is the intention and ability to turn the promise into action.
